MOOSE JAW, SK – The City of Moose Jaw advises that the 2026 Unidirectional Water Main Flushing Program will begin September 8, 2026, and run through the first week of October.

Flushing is scheduled for Zone 2 this year, as shown on the Unidirectional Water Main Flushing Map.

Scheduled flushing of the city’s water mains provides several benefits, including:

• Removing mineral deposits and sediment, thereby improving water quality
• Increasing the hydraulic carrying capacity of the mains
• Potentially reducing water distribution pumping costs

Most work will be completed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Toward the end of September and into early October, when flushing is underway in the downtown core (between Ross Street and Manitoba Street from north to south, and 1^st Avenue NW and 1^st Avenue NE from west to east), work is expected to take place overnight from 8:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.

Properties such as care homes, medical clinics, schools, hotels, rental halls, and those businesses serving food or drink will receive a notice advising them of upcoming flushing approximately one week before crews begin work in their area. The notice will advise them that they may wish to store water in advance for potable use, as there may be a decrease in water pressure and/or water discolouration.

When flushing is taking place in their area, residents are asked to refrain from water use, as it may be brown or rusty in appearance. Discolouration of the water should not last more than a few days once flushing is completed in an area.

If residents notice that discoloured water persists following the completion of flushing in their area, they should open their cold water taps one at a time for 30-60 seconds to clear sediment from their plumbing. If water remains cloudy, the process can be repeated for another 30-60 seconds. The water will be safe for potable use.

If discolouration issues are noticed with hot water following the completion of flushing, the sediment may have entered the property’s hot water tank, and the tank may need to be drained.

Drivers are reminded to be on the lookout for workers adjacent to the roadway or continuous flowing water and to exercise caution when passing these work zones for the safety of everyone. No More #NotoriouslyClose calls.
