The City of Moose Jaw, in collaboration with Wallace Insights, has developed a Housing Needs Assessment and Action Plan to guide future housing development. The most recent report, updated with 2024 data, provides a detailed analysis of local housing trends, affordability challenges, and anticipated population growth.
The 2024 Housing Needs Assessment offers an in-depth look at Moose Jaw’s housing market, identifying key challenges and long-term planning priorities. Highlights of the assessment include:
- Population Growth & Demographics – Moose Jaw’s population is projected to grow, creating increased demand for housing.
- Housing Affordability – Rising housing costs have made affordability a significant concern, particularly for lower-income households.
- Rental Market Constraints – Low vacancy rates highlight the need for more diverse rental housing options.
- Aging Housing Stock – Many existing homes require upgrades to meet modern living standards.
- Future Housing Needs – Page 31 of the report outlines strategies to increase the housing supply, including incentive opportunities for multi-unit developments, along with recommendations on zoning amendments.
