What does City Council do?

City Council operates in accordance with several provincial statutes mainly, The Cities Act and The Planning and Development Act. Council has only those powers which the Province of Saskatchewan has expressly given to it by statute.

City Council cannot make any decision or take any action other than during a public meeting of Council or a Committee.

How can I participate in City Council’s decisions?

• Providing submissions to Council and its Committees about reports or proposed bylaws.
• Making presentations at Council and Executive Committee meetings for items on the agendas.
• Providing submissions and presenting to Council members on new matters.

How can I find out what is on the Council and Committee Agendas?

Agendas are normally published in the afternoon on the Friday of the week preceding the meeting. They are available for viewing on the City’s website at City Council Agendas – Current | City of Moose Jaw

How can I address City Council or Executive Committee

Communications to Council or one of its Committees can be submitted in the following ways:

You are encouraged to contact the City Clerk's Office at cclerk@moosejaw.ca to clarify the requirements for writing to City Council or any of its Committees.

Is there anything I need to know about making a presentation?

Delegations shall only be heard by City Council resolution permitting that delegation or person(s) to address members of Council.

You will have ten minutes to address Council.  Following your presentation, you may be asked questions from members of Council or Committee.

Is there visual equipment available to use in making a presentation?

There is the ability to provide visual presentations to Council and Committees. These types of presentations are included in your ten minute allowance for presentation to Council and Committees. These presentations must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office prior to your presentation by email to cclerk@moosejaw.ca.

How will I know when a decision is made on the issue in which I am interested?

All decisions are made by Council resolutions and are public information. You may contact the City Clerk's Office for clarification of the decision. The City Clerk’s Office is your direct link to Council.

A motion will be made on all issues which require a decision or direction from Council or Committee. You may seek clarification from the City Clerk's Office if you do not understand what has been decided.

What if I just want to provide information and my thoughts?

Where a communication is merely for the purpose of providing information to City Council, without seeking specific action from Council, the City Clerk may merely provide a copy of the communication to members of Council as information.
