Steps to Take for New Water and Sewer Connections
- If it is a new commercial connection, you must contact the Engineering Department. If it is for a new residential connection, you must contact the Utilities Officer in the Utilities Department. Most new residential connections can be done through the Utilities Department
- For new residential connections, the City must install the portion of the connection from the City mains to the property line. The customer may have the portion from the property line to the building installed privately or by the City. The City offers a discounted rate if it installs the entire connection at the same time.
- If the lot was purchased from the City, the portion of the connection from the City main to the property line may have been included in the price of the lot. All vacant residential lots purchased from the City now have a $2,400 fee included in the price of the lot which covers the cost of the connection from the main to the property line. (Effective August 9, 1999.)
- If the connection was not paid for with the purchase of the lot, a price for that portion must be determined. This involves the Utilities Department requesting measurements from the Engineering Department and can cause a delay in getting an estimate to you by up to a day. The price of the connection from the City main to the property line is a firm price. If you request that the City install the portion from the property line to the building, an estimate will be prepared on that portion based on a measurement given by the customer. A deposit equal to the full amount of the estimate will be required before the work can begin. Signatures will also be required on some agreements when the deposit is paid. The distance from the property line to the building will be re-measured by the Engineering Department when the connection is installed and a final billing will be issued based on their measurement.
