Heavy Truck Traffic
City of Moose Jaw Truck and Dangerous Goods Route Map
Heavy truck traffic may utilize the routes above when travelling through the City. When dangerous goods are being moved, the red Dangerous Goods Route must be followed.
Please check our Road Closures information to plan your route and to keep up to date on detours.
Heavy traffic is strictly prohibited on the 4th Avenue Bridge (Thunderbird Viaduct) due to a 10-ton weight limit.
As per the City of Moose Jaw’s Traffic Bylaw No. 5556, no person shall drive or park a heavy vehicle on any highway not designated as a truck route, except:
- Where the owner or operator of the vehicle has obtained a permit to do so from the City Engineer and then only according to the terms of that permit and provided the permit is in the vehicle and available for inspection by police;
- To pick up or deliver cargo transported by the vehicle, in which case the vehicle must follow the most direct route to and from the truck route;
- On an authorized temporary detour route.
Failure to follow designated Truck and Dangerous Goods Routes may result in fines up to $230.00.
Please contact the Operations department at 306-694-4448 for permission to drive or park a heavy vehicle off the designated truck route.
Oversized Loads
Over-dimensional loads are considered to extend beyond 23m in overall length, 2.6m in width, or 4.15m in height.
Over-weight loads are dependant on the truck/trailer configuration and number of axles. The City of Moose Jaw’s parameters follow the Vehicle Weight and Dimension Regulations, 2010.
Over-dimensional and over-weight loads travelling on Highway 1 or Highway 2 are not permitted to route through City limits.
Over-dimensional and over-weight loads with final destinations within City limits must contact the Operations department to provide the route of travel to ensure clearance of hazards, and to receive permission to enter the City, by calling (306)-694-4448.
Highway 2 Over 1 Construction: Over-Dimensional Traffic Detour
Highway 1 Westbound lanes are closed with the Eastbound lanes accommodating two-way single lane traffic. Speeds are reduced to 40km/hr and traffic is asked to proceed with extreme caution in work zone.
The below detour has been temporarily established to accomodate over-dimensional traffic only. Please note, over-weight loads are not permitted to utilize this detour, and must contact SGI for an alternate over-dimensional/over-weight detour route.
Westbound traffic connecting from the North Service Road to Highway 1 is reminded to utilize the on-ramp via the North Service Road rather than the intersection at 9th Ave NW to enter the TransCanada Highway.
