PARKS AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN

The City of Moose Jaw Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide opportunities that are responsive to community needs and sustained with a focus on partnerships, innovation, and customer service. The department also has a strong focus on community pride through projects that enhance beautification in parks, and public spaces while maintaining civic facilities to a level that citizens can be proud of.

In 2022, the City of Moose Jaw Parks and Recreation Department partnered with EDS Group Inc. to develop a 10-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The development of a master plan creates an exciting opportunity for the City to develop a strategy to build on our parks and recreation system and involve residents as we plan for the next 10 years. After many months of consultation with stakeholders and the general public, the plan was officially adopted by City Council on February 27, 2023.

Parks and Recreation Master Plan

The goal of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan was to create a user-friendly document that guides the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of recreation and parks programs, services, and facilities. The plan also identifies priorities and strategies to meet community needs based on annual funding available for such services and facilities. The resulting recommendations will allow the Parks and Recreation Department to ensure services are aligned with City and community priorities. It also ensures that service delivery methods are effective and efficient with the desired outcome of providing people with opportunities to be active, creative, and connected to each other and to nature through meaningful public parks and recreation services.

TRAILS & PATHWAYS MASTER PLAN

The City of Moose Jaw Trails and Pathways Master Plan was aimed at enhancing the City's existing trail and pathway network, fostering community engagement, and promoting active lifestyles. This plan has been formulated in response to the City's desire for a more connected and accessible trail system.

In 2023, the City of Moose Jaw Parks and Recreation Department partnered with LEES+ Associates to develop a 10-year Trails and Pathways Master Plan. The Trails and Pathways Master Plan provides a way forward for the City of Moose Jaw to improve and expand its trails system over the next decade and beyond. The implementation of the recommendations within this Plan will result in a more connected, cohesive and safer trails system for the residents and visitors of Moose Jaw. After many months of consultation with stakeholders and the general public, the plan was officially adopted by City Council on September 11, 2023.
