Reminder To Book Smart Water Meter Upgrade To Avoid Service Disruptions

Moose Jaw, SK – The City of Moose Jaw is reminding residents that if you haven’t yet upgraded your water meter to the new smart water meters, please book your appointment as soon as possible or you may face service disruptions.

The City’s Smart Water Meter Replacement Program began in 2022, and approximately five per cent of customer accounts have not yet made the upgrade, which is mandatory.

Multiple attempts have been made to notify all accounts requiring meter replacement, and starting next week ‘Final Notice’ door hangers will be left at residences requiring the change.

Property owners who do not book an appointment to receive a new smart water meter within 72 hours of receiving the door hanger may be subject to penalties, which could include the disconnection of water service, and subsequent applicable reconnection fee.

This upgrade is not optional. This is a mandatory program in accordance with Bylaw No. 5152, Sewer and Water Utility Bylaw, with no cost to the homeowner. The procedure requires 30-90 minutes to complete, during which time the water will be shut off for a brief period. For your convenience, appointments are available Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Benefits of the new water meters include:

  • Eliminates the need for Utility customers to submit water meter readings.
  • Eliminates the need for Utility employees to enter a property.
  • Eliminates the risk of a faulty reading and mistaken billings.
  • Eliminates the risk of undetected water leaks.

 

The Smart Water Meter Project was approved by City Council in 2020, and Neptune Technology Group began the project of installing approximately 12,500 in Moose Jaw in November of 2022.
