Heritage Advisory Committee Unveils Veteran Banners in Downtown Moose Jaw
November 3, 2023
MOOSE JAW – At a special ceremony today (November 3, 2023) outside Moose Jaw City Hall, the City of Moose Jaw’s Heritage Advisory Committee officially unveiled the inaugural set of Veteran banners in downtown Moose Jaw.
The “Veterans Banner Program” was officially launched in March 2023 as part of an effort to recognize Moose Jaw & area community members who have served Canada, while acknowledging the sacrifices they have made so we can continue to enjoy the freedoms we have today.
As part of this project, a maximum of 40 “Veterans Banners” can be strategically placed on streetlight poles along Main Street and in the downtown core every year during the month of November.
“Our goals with the program are to engage our community in honouring our local veterans, both past and present, in a colorful and vibrant way as we move towards Remembrance Day,” said John Bye, Chair, Heritage Advisory Committee. “We also want to help educate students and residents on the faces and stories of the service of our Veterans and to help ensure recognition and remembrance in our future generations.”
This year, 24 Veterans will be honoured with banners. You can see the banners and read more about the honourees with this link to the City of Moose Jaw’s website.
The program is an initiative of the City’s Heritage Advisory Committee and is supported by the City of Moose Jaw.
