MOOSE JAW, SK – The City of Moose Jaw advises that October 17-18, 2026, has been designated as Free Yard Waste Weekend at the Moose Jaw Sanitary Landfill (1802 Caribou Street E).

During Free Yard Waste Weekend, residents can bag their organic yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, and tree branches no more than 1” in diameter) and bring them to the Moose Jaw Sanitary Landfill, where the residential tipping fee will be waived.

The landfill will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on October 17, and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 18, with the final load accepted 15 minutes prior to closing. Residents should note the following:

  • The fee waiver applies to ½ tonne or smaller vehicles. Residents may transport their organic yard waste in trailers behind light vehicles; however, dual-axle and commercial trucks are not eligible for the fee waiver.
  • Clear or orange bags should be used for transporting organic yard waste, for ease of identification.
  • All organic yard waste must be disposed of in the designated yard waste bins on arrival.
  • Those disposing of non-organic household waste, construction materials and other items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances will be subject to regular landfill fees based on material and weight.

The City reminds residents that “Tarps Aren’t Optional”. According to City Bylaw No. 5156, Waste Management Bylaw, Section 23, tarps are required to secure loads and violations will be issued for loads not secured by a tarp. This will keep roads and streets safe and free of debris.

Note that the City’s Sanitary Landfill hours will be changing to winter hours November 1 through March 31:

  • Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sundays: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Biweekly waste collection will also return November 1 through May 31.
