Emergency Preparedness Week May 7-13: Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.
MOOSE JAW, SK – The City of Moose Jaw Fire Department (MJFD) advises that May 7-13, 2023 is Emergency Preparedness Week.
Coinciding with national initiatives, the theme of Emergency Preparedness Week is “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks”.
Lead by Public Safety Canada, the MJFD is using the week to remind residents about keeping your family safe, and being prepared for emergencies beyond your control by remembering these simple steps:
- Know the risks
- Make a plan
- Get an emergency kit
“Emergencies come in many forms and can occur at any time,” said Moose Jaw Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Mike Russell, who is also the local Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) Coordinator . “That’s why your family should have a plan to be self-sufficient for 72 hours.” Russell continued, “plans should cover evacuation, food and water, a family meet up location and what to do with your pets.”
Residents are encouraged to download the City of Moose Jaw app to receive emergency notifications from the City of Moose Jaw, and the Sask Alert app to receive emergency notifications from from the provincial government.
