Moose Jaw, SK – The City of Moose Jaw will implement extended dates for arena ice and sport court users.

At the regular meeting of Moose Jaw City Council Tuesday, May 24, Council approved amendments to the City’s Arena Usage Policy, which included a Parks & Recreation department proposal to extend the dates of ice and sport court usage at City arenas as follows:

Former Start Date Former End Date New Start Date New End Date
Mosaic Place Ice Last week in August End of Warriors Season August 15 April 9 or end of Warriors Season (whichever is latest)
Kinsmen Arena Ice September 15 March 31 September 12 March 15
Bert Hunt Arena Ice October 1 March 15 October 1 April 9
Wally Boschuk Arena Ice October 15 March 15 October 15 April 9
Kinsmen Arena Sport Court April 15 August 28 First Monday in April Third Sunday in August

“We had productive discussions with user groups this spring, and we made the recommendations based on their needs and commitment to utilize the arenas during the extended time frames,” said Derek Blais, Director of Parks and Recreation. “There is no additional funding required to implement the changes to the arena seasons.  The additional utility, staffing, and maintenance/supply costs will be offset through additional revenue generated from ice rentals.”

“This is another excellent example of user groups expressing a desire and our Administration engaging with them to find a solution,” said Mayor Clive Tolley. “We have tremendous arena facilities in Moose Jaw and we’re more than happy to keep them in operation to meet the needs of the community.”
