City Officially Breaks Ground on Crescent View Headworks Facility
October 2, 2026
MOOSE JAW, SK – The City of Moose Jaw officially broke ground today on the new Crescent View Headworks Facility, marking the start of the single largest infrastructure project in the city’s history. The new facility will replace the existing Crescent View Lift Station, which has served Moose Jaw since 1961 and serves as the first stop in the City’s wastewater treatment system.
The Crescent View Lift Station receives wastewater from homes and businesses across Moose Jaw and removes debris, sand, grit, and other materials before the wastewater continues to the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant for further treatment. The new Headworks Station will modernize this critical piece of infrastructure, increasing system reliability, reducing the risk of sewer backups and flooding during major storm events, and providing capacity to support future residential, commercial, and industrial growth.
City Council has approved construction of the facility, and the $73 million project is funded primarily by the City of Moose Jaw, with more than $9.7 million in support coming through the Government of Canada’s Build Communities Strong Fund Community stream, administered by the Province of Saskatchewan.
“Reliable infrastructure is essential to building strong, growing communities,” said the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State (Rural Development). “The Crescent View Headworks Facility will help Moose Jaw meet the needs of its growing population while strengthening the reliability and resilience of its wastewater system. Today’s groundbreaking marks an important step toward a stronger future for Moose Jaw and the people who call this community home.”
“Moose Jaw continues to grow and investments like the Crescent View Headworks facility help ensure essential services support that growth,” said Minister of Government Relations Eric Schmalz. “This project strengthens the city’s wastewater capacity, supports future development and helps make sure residents can rely on modern infrastructure for years to come.”
“Moose Javians may never see this facility, but they will benefit from it every day,” said Mayor James Murdock. “Every home, business, school, and community facility in Moose Jaw relies on a safe and reliable wastewater system. The Crescent View Headworks Facility will replace aging infrastructure, help protect residents and property from future risks, and ensure we are prepared for growth for decades to come. We thank the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan for their support of this critical infrastructure project.”
Construction is expected to continue through 2029. Once complete, the new facility will provide additional capacity to support community growth to over 45,000 people, enhanced flood resilience, modern screening and grit removal systems, standby power generation, and improved operational reliability for Moose Jaw’s wastewater infrastructure.
