MOOSE JAW – The City of Moose Jaw has been named a winner of two Marketing Canada awards.

The Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) announced their 2020 Marketing Canada awards on social media Monday morning (February 22, 2021), with the City of Moose Jaw winning awards in the following categories:

  • COVID-19 Recovery Project/Plan. The City’s submission included economic recovery initiatives implemented by City Council, along with partnerships that were forged with the Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerice, Tourism Moose Jaw, Downtown Business Association, WOW Factor Media and several members of the business community. Those partnerships resulted in the creation of weekly Think Tank recovery meetings, the downtown Pop-up patio, Virtual Moose Jaw Marketplace and more.
  • Brand Identity. The City’s submission focused on the collaborative approach taken to rebrand Moose Jaw as “Canada’s Most Notorious City”. The City hosted a public branding presentation in October, 2018, and included City Council, Tourism Moose Jaw, Chamber of Commerce, community groups and local businesses in branding discussions that led to the February 12, 2020 launch of the City’s new branding logo, website and app.

“These awards belong to our community,” said Fraser Tolmie, Mayor. “We thank EDAC for recognizing the power of collaboration and how good things happen when we work together toward a common goal. On behalf of City Council, we thank our Administration and community partners for showing the rest of Canada what it means to be “Notorious”.

On EDAC’s website, they discussed the winning entries:

Leading the way in the less than $200,000 category this year with two wins was the City of Moose Jaw. They take home the Recovery Project/Plan award, which was introduced this year to acknowledge the ongoing challenges and difficulties of marketing through a pandemic. The judges noted that their ‘Moose Jaw in Recovery’ campaign included an “exceptional use of social media,” which further contributed to the impact of this important initiative. For their Brand Identity/Application win, the judges commented again on an “exceptional execution” as well as a “truly unique logo” in their ‘Notoriously Collaborative’ submission.

The City of Moose Jaw previously won an EDAC Marketing Canada award in 2019 for promotion and marketing of the “Moose War” with Norway.
