MOOSE JAW – The City of Moose Jaw reminds residents there is no change to waste and recycling collection over the holiday season. All zones will receive collection on their regular days as per the collection schedule.

The City reminds residents that items to be placed in your blue recycling bin include:

  • Plastics numbered 2 through 7.
  • Tin and Aluminum Cans (including candy tins).
  • Paper cards and envelopes.
  • Glass (food and beverage containers must be rinsed).

All material going into the blue recycling bin must be clean and free of tape, food stains, food residue, etc.

Items that are not accepted in the City’s recycling stream and must be placed in the garbage include:

  • Wrapping paper.
  • Plastic packaging without a recycling symbol.
  • Glossy/decorated gift bags.
  • Ribbons/Bows.
  • Black, Clear, or “Clam Shell” type Plastic Food Containers Labelled as #1.

Additionally, all fats, oils and greases (F.O.G.) must be placed in your garbage (allow to cool then scrape into the garbage). Examples of F.O.G. include gravy, butter, bacon grease, shortening, cooking oil, etc. Pouring F.O.G. down the drain can result in clogged drains/toilets and can cause raw sewage backups in your home.

The City also reminds residents that old electronics, batteries and other items, can be taken to SARCAN. And, if you have an excess of acceptable cardboard, paper and plastics, you can dispose of those items at the City’s bulk recycle bins at 1050 High Street West between the City Complex and Yara Centre.

Finally, the City of Moose Jaw will once again offer alternatives for disposing of your natural Christmas tree. Residents may drop off their natural Christmas trees in the parking lot of the Bike Park west of Yara Centre (1220 High St. West) anytime after December 26th, OR you can leave your Christmas tree near your waste collection bin and they will be picked up by collection crews, beginning January 16, 2023, in Zone 1.
