MOOSE JAW, SK – The City of Moose Jaw has launched the Financial & Budget Reports web page at MooseJaw.ca to help residents better understand the 2026 Budget.

The new page explains where City revenues come from, how funds are allocated, and how the 2026 Budget supports the priorities outlined in the City’s Strategic Plan. By aligning budget information with the Strategic Plan, the City aims to show how financial decisions support long-term community goals, responsible growth, and sustainable service delivery.

At a special meeting of Council Thursday, December 11th, 2025, Council approved the 2026 Operating, Capital and Equipment Reserve Budgets. Council approved a 6.95% property tax increase, with 2.97% dedicated to City programs and services, and 3.98% allocated to the Moose Jaw Police Service for their Budget. Council also approved a 4% increase to Waterworks Utility rates and a 4% increase to Sanitary Sewer Utility rates.

For the average property taxpayer, this equals $11.64 per month or $139.70 annually. The City of Moose Jaw uses a fair value assessment of $260,000 for an average home value.

“The 2026 Budget reflects our commitment to balancing fiscal responsibility with the needs of a growing community,” said Mayor James Murdock. “By investing in essential infrastructure, public safety, and quality of life initiatives, we are positioning Moose Jaw for long-term success. This budget ensures we maintain core services while making strategic investments that support our residents and build a stronger city. Thank you to Council, Administration, and the community for your engagement and trust.”

Among the approved Budget initiatives, here are several new items for 2026:
• $95,220 to expand the Digital Parking System to decommission traditional parking meters
• Saturday transit service starting April 2026, for a prorated net cost of $73,762
• $10,000 to begin the phased-in implementation of a technology solution to ensure the safety of City of Moose Jaw employees working alone

Residents are encouraged to visit the new 2026 Budget webpage to learn more and stay informed about how City resources are being managed.
