Moose Jaw, SK – Moose Jaw City Council has approved a 0% property tax increase for this year.
At the regular meeting of Council June 15, the 2020 Property Tax Bylaw was adopted after being given third and final reading.
The 2020 Operating Budget was initially approved in December of 2019 and called for a 2.3% property tax increase. However, City Council acknowledged the financial impact to residents and to City finances due to COVID-19 when making the decision to roll back this increase to 0%.
The property tax decrease a significant part of over $800,000 in economic support to Moose Javians Council has approved since March 16. Other measures include:
- Small Business Support Program (applications due June 30).
- Free Transit until further notice.
- Free parking downtown until further notice.
- Waiving of penalties for late payment of property taxes and Utility bills until September 30, 2020.
Property tax notices are being prepared by the City’s Financial Services department and will be delivered in the mail by June 30, 2020.
