Cannabis Retail Stores

Businesses that apply to open a Cannabis Retail Store in the City of Moose Jaw must have prior approval from SLGA. Cannabis Retail Stores are permitted in the C2 and C3 Commercial Zoning Districts, provided they can maintain the required separation distances from Elementary and High Schools, Parks, Day Care Centres, Public Libraries, Public Recreation Facilities and other Cannabis Retail Stores. Separation distances are based on the zoning of the property. Permit approval is based on a first come, first serve basis.

Separation Distances

Separation distances are measured as a straight line from the nearest point of the building used or proposed to be used for a Cannabis Retail Store to the nearest portion of the lot currently developed with a use that requires a separation distance.

In the C3 Vehicle-Orientation Commercial District, Cannabis Retail Stores may not be located or enlarged within 166m from:

  • Elementary and High Schools;
  • Parks;
  • Day Care Centres;
  • Public Libraries;
  • Public Recreation Facilities; and
  • Another Cannabis Retail Store.

 

In the C2 High Density Commercial District, Cannabis Retail Stores may not be located or enlarged within 83m from:

  • Parks (except Crescent Park which separation distance is 60m);
  • Day Care Centres;
  • Public Libraries;
  • Public Recreation Facilities;
  • Except Elementary and High Schools, and another Cannabis Retail Store where the separation distance is 166m.
