2018 Building Permit Report
Building permits are a traditional indicator of a local investment and economic health. The City of Moose Jaw Building Permit Report indicates local investment is slightly lower this year than the same six-month period in 2017, with the lion’s share of investment coming from residential construction. For the period January 1 - June 30, 2018, the City issued 93 permits valued at $8,441,870, down from $18,868,961 recorded in 2017 with 160 permits issued. Permits for 11 single family homes in the first six months of 2018 is down from the 24 permits issued for the same period in the prior year.
HISTORICAL BUILDING PERMIT ACTIVITY 2001 – 2017 The record high was set in 2014 with the value of building permits totaling $131.5M; the lowest recorded value was set in 2002 at $17.9M.

2017 BUILDING PERMIT REPORT SUMMARY In 2017, the City issued 285 permits valued at $39,903,156, down by 6.9 per cent from $40,297,261 (306 permits) recorded in 2016. The value of commercial and industrial building permits in 2017 rose by 1.0 per cent to $15,849,327 compared to $15,682,956 recorded in 2016. As well, residential construction values in 2017 totaling $22,005,391 were down by 33 per cent compared to $29,993,843 recorded in 2016.
2017 MOOSE JAW HOUSING STARTS For the period January 1 – March 31, 2017 the City issued 11 permits for new dwellings, valued at $4,140,370 compared to 16 permits issued for the same period in the prior year valued at $4,424,945.
