The City of Moose Jaw invites residents to share their thoughts at Community Café events October 26 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. & October 28 from 10:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on the mezzanine level.
Topics to be included in the Community Café include:
- ‘Complete’ neighbourhoods – daily living needs within walking distance.
- More housing density in strategic areas of the city.
- Encouraging housing choice, availability and affordability.
- Mixed use zones to create vibrant, walkable areas.
- Improving mobility through transit and active transportation.
- Encouraging commercial development in the west half of the city.
- Improved policies for green initiatives.
- Policy improvements for Wakamow Valley and the park system throughout the city.
- Preparing infrastructure to support OCP development goals.
- Making infill growth as easy as growth at the City’s edge.
- New public engagement policy.
- More focus on Indigenous economic development.
- Options for protecting Heritage Main Street.
- Renewed focus on regional development.
The Community Cafes are a “come and go” style event and residents of all ages are welcome to attend. Members of City departments and the consulting team (Wallace Insights and Crosby Hanna & Associates) will be in attendance to answer questions and guide residents through each interactive engagement station.

What is an Official Community Plan?
An Official Community Plan (OCP) is recognized by the Provincial Government as a statement of Moose Jaw’s long-term vision for growth and development. It reflects community values and establishes a framework for investment.
The OCP bylaw is adopted by Council as required by The Planning & Development Act, 2007.
What is a Zoning Bylaw?
A Zoning Bylaw implements the policies of the OCP. Its purpose is to:
- establish permitted, prohibited and discretionary land uses by assigning zoning districts;
- outline development standards; and
- identify permit requirements.
Moose Jaw’s values and aspirations are captured in the OCP and implemented through the Zoning Bylaw (and other bylaws and policies). The City of Moose Jaw is updating this planning framework by engaging the community. Here are some short videos providing background on the project.
