The City of Moose Jaw advises that funding from SGI’s Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant Program has supported safety improvements at 13 crosswalks in school zones and high-pedestrian areas through the installation of inlaid thermoplastic pavement markings.

This heat-applied material is embedded into the asphalt, making it more durable than traditional painted crosswalks. While paint often fades in the winter months with snow clearing and road maintenance, this material is designed to withstand wear from snow removal equipment and harsh weather, providing improved visibility and safety year-round.

The City received $100,000 from SGI towards this project, with the grant awarded in January 2026.

Installation locations included school zones and areas with heavy pedestrian traffic:

• William Grayson School – Caribou Street W
  • 2 pedestrian crossing locations
• Peacock Collegiate – Ross Street E
  • 3 pedestrian crossing locations
• Central Collegiate – 1st Avenue NW
  • 2 pedestrian crossing locations
• Sunningdale School – Wood Lily Drive
  • 2 pedestrian crossing locations
• Prince Arthur School – Athabasca Street E
  • 2 pedestrian crossing locations
• 4th Avenue NW & Thatcher Drive
• Main Street & MacDonald Street

The thermoplastic product has an estimated life expectancy of four years or more.

The City of Moose Jaw thanks SGI for this grant, which improves pedestrian safety and will allow the City to evaluate the long-term performance of this product for Moose Jaw’s climate.
