MOOSE JAW, SK – The City of Moose Jaw advises that the City’s two dog parks at 1500 High St. West have reopened as of Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

The dog parks, for small and large dogs respectively, were temporarily closed on June 26, 2026, following reports of death and illness among dogs from a household that had visited the park. The City immediately performed water testing on samples collected from the dog parks and the outside tap, with those samples submitted to the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s Provincial Laboratory.

The City’s water testing performed on June 26, 2026, confirmed that the samples collected from the dog parks and the outside tap met Canadian drinking water quality standards, but the dog parks remained closed while toxicology testing was performed on the deceased dog.

The City has now received confirmation that the toxicology results did not identify evidence of toxins connected to the City’s dog parks.

Based on the information available, Administration has not identified evidence that would warrant keeping the parks closed.

“We recognize how important these spaces are to local dog owners, and we appreciate residents’ patience while the City completed its review,” said Scott Osmachenko, Acting Director of Community Recreation and Parks Services. City Crews have completed a final inspection and routine maintenance, and the parks are ready for public use.”

Visitors are advised that any personal items, especially bowls and water bottles, brought with them must remain under their control at all times and must be removed when leaving the dog parks. Any items left at the dog parks may be disposed of by City staff when performing regular maintenance. The change is intended to reduce the potential for contamination of shared water sources and to promote responsible use of the parks.

The City appreciates residents’ patience while this precautionary closure allowed Administration to gather information and complete its review.
