The Veterans Banner program provides an opportunity to recognize our local community members who have served our great country, while acknowledging the sacrifices they have made so we can continue to enjoy the freedoms we have today.
The Veterans banners are installed on streetlight poles in the downtown core annually during November. The program supports up to 24 new banners per year, displayed for a three-year term.
The specific objectives of the program are:
- to engage our community in honouring our local veterans, both past and present, in a colorful and vibrant way as we move towards Remembrance Day;
- to help promote remembrance in our community;
- to help educate students and citizens on the faces and stories of the service of our Veterans; and
- to help ensure recognition and remembrance in our future generations.
Applications: accepted April 1 - May 31 annually.

- New Banner Application: $425.28 + tax for 3-year term
- Banner Renewal Application: $90.09 + tax for an additional 1-year term after the original 3-year term

Who is allowed to be portrayed on the banners?
Any veteran can be portrayed on the banners. A veteran is any person who is currently serving or who has honourably served in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Commonwealth, or its wartime allies, or as a Peace Officer in a special duty area or on a special duty operation, or who has served in the Merchant Navy or Ferry Command during wartime. The person must have some connection to Moose Jaw or the surrounding area. (Born, grew up here, or lived here)
Note: if the veteran is still living, they must provide consent.
Who is allowed to sponsor/purchase a banner?
Any individual, family, organization, or company may purchase a banner on behalf of a veteran.
Banner Ownership
The veteran banners purchased/sponsored by individuals, families, organizations, or companies will become the property of the City of Moose Jaw for a 3-year term. Upon conclusion of the term, banners will be returned to the original purchaser/sponsor.
Veteran Biography
Applicants may include a brief biography of the veteran (maximum of 250 words) and once the application has been approved and the banner completed, the biography will be posted with a picture of the banner to the MemoryKPR website here: Veterans of Moose Jaw - MemoryKPR
Photo Requirements
Applicants are asked to provide a high-resolution photo (300 dpi or greater for a 3” x 5” or larger photo) of the veteran in uniform (if possible) that can be enlarged to fit on a banner. Please click here for more information on the photo requirements.
What does the banner look like?
All the banners will have the same uniform design. See samples below.
How many banners will be installed on streetlight poles?
Currently, there is room for a total of 72 banners. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications to extend past the 3-year display period will be considered after all new applications are reviewed.
Can I choose which streetlight my banner goes on?
Regretfully not. Individual banner locations may change from year to year. Given the number of banners and the complexity of installing/removing banners each year, it would be very time-consuming to cater to individual wishes. The Parks & Recreation office will keep a record of where each banner is installed. Please contact the office at recreation@moosejaw.ca to receive the location of a specific banner.
When will the banners be displayed?
Banners will be displayed for the month of November each year.
Applicants will be contacted following their 3-year term to coordinate the pickup of their banner.
